fractional SEO lead

A fractional SEO lead for in-house marketing teams. I own your SEO and GEO strategy and roadmap, report to leadership and do the hands-on work, at about 40 hours a month, so nobody on your team has to manage search on the side.

the details

Plenty of marketing teams know search should be a bigger channel, but nobody owns it. SEO ends up split between a content marketer, a developer and whoever has time that week, so the work happens in bursts, priorities change with every campaign and nobody can say with confidence what's working.

Hiring a head of SEO is a big step, and senior people who can set the strategy and still do the work are hard to find. Agencies can help, but they often work at arm's length, and someone on your team still has to manage them. Meanwhile, more buyers are starting their research in ChatGPT and Perplexity, and nobody is tracking whether you show up there.

Every engagement starts with my AI search optimization audit, at no extra cost. I look at where you rank, how AI tools describe you next to competitors, what's holding the site back technically and where the biggest content gaps are, then turn it into a 90-day roadmap your leadership team can see and sign off on.

From there, I own it. I start with the technical fixes, like crawl and indexing issues, pages competing for the same searches, redirects, speed and schema, so new content lands on a site that's ready for it. Then each month I decide what matters most, do the hands-on work myself across research, briefs, writing, optimization and refreshing pages that are slipping, and brief your developers, designers and writers when something needs their help. I work in your tools, whether that's Slack, Notion or your CMS, so it feels like having someone on the team.

We check in weekly, and you get monthly reporting that ties rankings and AI visibility back to traffic, leads and pipeline, so leadership can see what the work is doing for the business.

what to expect

02
technical fixes

I spend the rest of month one on technical fixes, like crawl and indexing issues, competing pages, redirects, speed and schema, so new content lands on a site that's ready for it.

03
content & updates

From month two, most months include 3 or 4 new pieces plus 3 or 4 updates to existing pages, and I brief your team when something needs their help.

04
report & refine

We check in weekly, and monthly reporting ties rankings and AI visibility back to traffic, leads and pipeline.

is it a fit?

In-house marketing teams, especially at B2B SaaS companies, with no one owning SEO, or teams heading into a launch, migration or content push. It's a good fit if you want senior SEO leadership and hands-on work without hiring a full-time head of SEO, and your goals go beyond traffic, like demo requests, signups or pipeline.

not a fit if

It's probably not the right fit if you already have someone leading SEO and just need more content. In that case, content strategy & writing or just content strategy is a better place to start. If you'd like a one-time look at where you stand first, the AI search optimization audit covers that.

From $4,500 USD/mo

The fractional SEO lead starts at $4,500 USD a month for about 40 hours, covering the strategy, roadmap, hands-on work, weekly check-ins and monthly reporting. It includes the $2,000 AI search optimization audit at no extra cost. If you need more or fewer hours, we can scope that together.

The hours are shared across everything on the roadmap, so months with more off-page outreach will usually include fewer new pieces.

Work is billed monthly in advance, with a quarterly commitment. Canadian clients can be billed in CAD.

How is a fractional SEO lead different from content strategy & writing?

Content strategy & writing is built around content. I review how your existing pages are ranking, recommend which ones to merge or refresh, and write new pieces each month. As your fractional SEO lead, the extra hours mean I can handle that work myself across the whole site, alongside the rest of a full SEO strategy: technical fixes, merging competing pages and setting up redirects, refreshing pages that are slipping, site structure, off-page SEO (like finding and pitching placements on the sites Google and AI tools trust) and reporting to leadership.

Once the audit and first fixes are done, most months include 3 or 4 new pieces plus 3 or 4 updates to existing pages.

How do you decide what to prioritize each month?

By impact and effort: what's most likely to move the needle, what's blocking performance, and what opportunities competitors are leaving on the table. It's part data, part strategy, and always tied to business goals, not just traffic.

Can you work with our existing marketing team?

Yes. That’s the point. I can work directly with your marketing or content lead and collaborate with developers, designers, product teams, sales teams and subject matter experts as needed. I’m also happy to work in the tools and processes your team already uses, whether that’s Slack, Notion, Asana, ClickUp or something else.

How do you measure performance?

We’ll agree on the right KPIs for the work at the start. Depending on the scope, that might include organic traffic, qualified conversions, rankings, non-branded visibility, AI mentions and citations, content performance or technical improvements. I can work within your existing reporting setup or build a simple one if you don’t already have it.

Is there a minimum commitment?

Yes, there's a 3-month minimum on all ongoing work, billed monthly in advance. Working on a steady monthly cadence means each month builds on the last, so the work has more impact, and it gives Google and AI crawlers enough time to crawl and index your new content before we judge the results.

Audits and website builds are one-off projects with no ongoing commitment.
